Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized branch of physical therapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of conditions related to the pelvic floor muscles and associated structures. The pelvic floor consists of a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues located at the base of the pelvis, and it plays a crucial role in supporting the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum.
Pelvic floor physical therapists are trained healthcare professionals who have expertise in evaluating and addressing a wide range of issues that can affect the pelvic floor.
PT can help you when you're pregnant or postpartum and dealing with issues like hip or low back pain, urinary incontinence, or learning to get back to physical activity.
PT can also be very helpful for folks who are experiencing pelvic pain or pain with sex.
At Internal Locus, we're prepared to help you no matter where you're at in your pelvic health journey.
At your first visit, you'll talk about your history, your current symptoms, and your goals for therapy. Your PT will do a systems assessment by taking a look at your core, your back, your hips, and your legs. Depending on your level of comfort, we may do an internal exam of the pelvic floor to figure out what structures there are causing your symptoms.
Treatment consists of teaching you specific movements and exercises to help decrease your symptoms, manual therapies to address tense muscles, education on how the systems of your body work, and many other methods to help you heal. And of course, these treatments are always done with your goals in mind in a supportive and caring manner.
